LOMPICO LEAVES ITS BAD REPUTATION BEHIND
Small Santa Cruz Community Aims To Correct 30-Year-Old
Stereotype With First Ever Community Web Site: Lompico.org
Lompico, California, September 20, 2004 - The
small Santa Cruz community of Lompico today announced
its first ever web presence (www.Lompico.org)
aimed at dispelling its 30-year-old stereotype of being
a rowdy neighborhood.
Lompico's stereotype of being a rowdy neighborhood
was levied on the community in the 60s and 70s when
famous rock stars such as Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia
and Hot Tuna played to large, boisterous crowds at the
Lompico Community Center next to Lompico Creek. These
community concerts attracted large crowds from all over
Santa Cruz County that resulted in media coverage portraying
Lompico as a hotbed of disorder, instead of the sleepy,
creek side community of 500 homes that it is. While
the Lompico Community Center changed over the years
into the family focused Lompico Park, Lompico's reputation,
until today, has not.
Lompico.org dispels Lompico's 30-year-old rowdy stereotype
by explaining what the community of Lompico is really
like and why Lompico residents have chosen to make it
their home. It details the area's extensive list of
outdoor activities and attractions, its great quality
of life, its miles of running and biking trails, its
excellent fishing, kayaking and boating on Santa Cruz
County's largest lake, local parks for relaxing summer
picnics, as well as some of Santa Cruz County's most
affordable housing.
Lompico.org is a valuable resource to current and prospective
residents as it details all the outdoor activities of
the area, local attractions, local accommodation for
when friends and family come to visit, Lompico's history,
school district information, neighborhood facts and
figures, local weather, local services, neighborhood
associations that have dedicated their efforts to making
Lompico the best community in all of Santa Cruz County
and a move-in checklist to help new residents get a
jump start on living here.
"I created Lompico.org because I wanted to give
back to my community," said Lompico resident and
Lompico.org Webmaster, Brendan Monahan. "When I
moved into Lompico in 2001, I was extremely proud of
my find but shocked by the response of non-Lompico residents,
'YOU MOVED FROM SILICON VALLEY TO WHERE?' I just got
tired of people slandering my neighborhood and decided
to do something about it, so I created Lompico.org."
About Lompico
Lompico is a small community of 500 homes located in
the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains in the San
Lorenzo Valley in North Santa Cruz County, California.
Founded in 1927, the community is located in a 100 year
old coast redwood forest, nestled around the scenic
Lompico Creek, with the largest lake in all of Santa
Cruz County on its Western side (Loch Lomond Lake) and
a quaint, smaller lake on it's Eastern side (Lompico
Lake). Two parks within Lompico provide the perfect
setting for weekend picnics, fishing trips, kayaking
and miles of hiking and running trails. Lompico is located
25 miles from Silicon Valley and 10 miles from the beaches
of Santa Cruz. The community provides a rural charm
and a great quality of life that is quickly disappearing
throughout the rest of California. Learn more about
